Well I have to admit, I’m a little disappointed in Grad School. Well not disappointed but a little confused. Usually about this time I am calling my parents because I am so stressed out with school, papers, tests, and don’t know how I am going to get it all done. So far this year, I’ve had more free time than I know what to do with. Yet at the same time I stay busy, just not like I though it would be. School is really easy, it’s like a normal undergrad semester, only I have 2 classes. So really it is extremely manageable. I have a term paper and I have to teach a class about Stephen Spielberg. And that’s it really. I have two finals, but one is going to be a take home final. So really I only have one final, and it is not even cumulative. Again I’m not complaining, I’m just really confused. Don’t get me wrong, I love it this way, but I just have this really bad feeling that It is going to get really hard. But until then I like the way things are going. I work more, so that fills the extra time during my day. And I even volunteer every Friday at another museum. So I’m working, going to school and volunteering. And yet it’s all going fairly easy. I guess I could go so far as to say that perhaps I’m just good at what I do, but I’m not that conceited. Haha, I really think I was blessed with an easy semester, which under the circumstances has been nice.
Most of my time is truly spent watching movies. And I was thinking the other day that maybe I’m wasting precious hours of my time, and that I should go and read something instead. But honestly deep down I just love movies and indulging in something that makes me happy isn’t something I’m going to feel bad about. My brother likes motorcycles, my parents like NASCAR, I love movies. So, I will have to admit, that I try to motivate myself with my movies. I come home from work, walk the dog, fix something to eat, and then do my homework as fast as I can so that I can watch a movie before I go to bed. The only problem is that no matter what time I start the movie I will not turn it off to get to bed at a decent hour. I will watch it until it is over. Which can make for some late nights, but again I don’t feel bad about it. One day I hope to have a fabulous Movie collection which will be organized by directors. I’m working on Spielberg right now. I recently watched Empire of the Sun, which is a movie about an English boy who lives in China during WWII, get separated from his parents and is put into a concentration camp. It is an amazing movie, not well received at the time it went out, but defiantly a must see. Christian Bail stars as the little boy, and it is funny to see him so young, but he did a fabulous job, and received a few awards for his performance. I am trying to watch as many of his movies as possible before my lecture. I’ve seen most of his movies, but I need to refresh my mind, and of course catch up on some of his really early films. IMDB.com is the best place that I have found so far that gives good synopses of movies, directors, and actors. It also has a fabulous All Time list of movies.
I’m really excited because Spider-Man III comes out on Tuesday. I really hated the movie, but I need it for my future collection. Really, it was the worse of all the three, but there is hope because there are talks that Spider-Man IV is in pre-production. Hopefully it all works out. Even though I did not like it as well, I am still excited to buy it. Spider-Man is one of my favorite movies. I’m sucker for any Marvel comic book stories.
I bought Transformers last week. It is actually in a DVD case that transforms into a robot. Optimus Prime to be exact. I’m going to actually use it in my Spielberg presentation because he was the executive producer for the movie. Plus I think my classmates will get a kick out of the transforming case! For any of you out there that were planning on buying the DVD, I got mine at Target, and it was a few dollars more than the regular DVD, it is totally worth it! Plus it comes with a disk II with DVD extras.
If any of you out there want a movie recommendation just ask! I’ve really been doing my homework on this stuff. I watch about 5 movies a week, and sometime just in the weekend alone! But no worries mom and dad my grade as still fine!

Hi Jennifer. This is Zack. I don't have a google email account so I stole Soheila's. :)
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the best movie of all time is "Paris, Texas"
You are also right about "Empire of the Sun." I have the VHS and DVD version and have watched it many times. In my opinion, it was the best movie Steven Spielberg ever made. His second best movie is of course "Schindler's List"
I hope we get to see you again soon.
Zack
